ABOUT PATRICK S. STOKES
Patrick is inspired to create by nature: the sea, the planet, and the innocence of newborns.
He was raised in Shropshire, England, and now resides in Marbella, Spain.
Don’t miss his next book, a view of the world through the eyes of a feisty cat named Oliver. When he is not writing, he is running a busy restaurant in Marbella, Southern Spain.
Patrick about himself:
I was born in the heart of the English countryside in the beautiful county of Shropshire in 1958, the youngest of eight children..
Educated locally until 1977 when I moved to Blackpool to undertake a Catering Management course. It was here on the Lancashire coast that I found my affinity with the sea spending hours walking along the shoreline collecting pebbles and shells.
Following a couple of years working as an Assistant Manager in the UK, I was given the opportunity to move to Palma, Mallorca to run a new restaurant venture. I remained there for five years falling in love with this wonderful Mediterranean Island. During that period I travelled to South Africa on a positioning cruise aboard the ill fated Achille Lauro via Israel, Egypt and the Seychelles.
I returned to the UK in 1989 and settled in London for six or so years finding the pace of life too slow in the county of my birth. During this period I travelled extensively both in Europe and the U.S.A where I discovered Connecticut and Vermont with the occasional jaunt to San Francisco. Eventually the manic pace and claustrophobia of London took it's toll and chance would have it that I landed a job as a Purser with the Royal Caribbean Cruise Line with my work taking me to Vancouver, Alaska, the West Coast of America, Mexico, Panama and finally the Caribbean.
Following the bereavement of a close friend in London, I did not return to the high seas and took a completely different career move, as a salesman. After 7 successful years, I moved for the first time to the Costa del Sol which is my home to this day.
I began writing small pieces of prose and poetry some twenty years ago and completed a short children's story in 2004 (yet to be published). I began The Harvest of Inadequate Lives in December 2008, with the first rough draft finished in March 2009. At present I am working on a sequel in addition to running a busy a la carte restaurant, I have several other projects on the 'back burners' and hope at some point to devote more time to creative writing.
